Growing and Helpful Tips

Breaking up and Dividing Bromeliads

To divide bromeliads the pups (baby plants) need to be around 1/3rd the full size of the mother plant. Saying this for the majority of brom's there are some that produce hare pups (very small pups and some pup through the middle of the plant which makes it extremly hard the divide etc.....

First remove any leaves off the mother plant to expose the pups. to do this split the leaf in half using fingers or knife and pull the two half’s side ways away from each other till the leaf tears off at the base of the mother plant this way you do not need much effort and the pup is not disturbed as much

Once you have a good view of your pup slide your finger down behind the pup between pup and mother now pulling the pup downwards from the pups base carefully remove. some times you will tear some flesh from the mother plant this is fine. Be carful not to break the heal off the pup, This is at the bottom of the pup and is normaly whitish in colour this can be soft and if ceare is not taken this will break to wish normaly deems the pup useles

Now you can pot/plant your pup in your mix some pups may need some support till new roots develop. these plants may need a bit more water till the plant setels or grows a sizable vars in the ceter to hold water
